THE COURSE
Modem is a specializing training course, stemmed in 2000 from the collaboration among: the compagnia zappalà danza, SCENARIO PUB.BLI.CO and Professione Danza. Since 2010 also in collaboration with the Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini of Catania.
The course is divided into two modules:
Studio thoroughly dedicated to the younger dancers with a muscular and physical work, and to those who need to deepen the contemporary technique (duration 1 year).
Atelier focused laboratorial work, on creativity and live performances. (duration 2 years – the second year is not obligatory ).
Length of the course two years, 8 months each.
Maximum attendance 25 participants per course.
Who is eligible to apply Both courses are aimed at dancers of contemporary dance, specifically at students between 18 and 26 years of age. Both EU and non-EU (with permit and free from school-related commitments) can apply.
Modem studio’s length is 8 months while modem atelier‘s length is two years, 8 months per year. At the end of the two years a certificate of attendance will be delivered.
At the end of the first year of modem atelier, every dancer has the opportunity to decide whether to confirm his/her presence for the following year.
Auditions The access to modem studio atelier high specialising course is through selections. Applicants will have the opportunity to be selected through audition or during VII uva grapes contemporary dance summer workshop.
Programme The programme is designed to help young dancers develop their dance technique with the support of highly professional dance teachers and benefit from the direct contact with the company and its choreographer, who feels the necessity to transfer his language to young dancers through a deep laboratorial work and on the repertory.
The range of elements in the program includes a thorough dance training together with the study of musical and theatrical skills, through specifically designed workshops held by teachers of Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini Catania and by actors and directors from the contemporary field. These workshops are intended to give the dancer of contemporary dance all the necessary requirements to get involved in more and more eclectic performances.
The training courses end every year with the staging of selected performances of the company’s repertoire and/or new guest choreographers’ creations.
Unlike studio course, atelier will have the chance to stage many times during the year with creations of the guest choreographer or from the repertoire of the company, the choreographer can choose autonomously the dancers to involve in the creation.
Classes will take place in Scenario Pubblico (artistic residence of compagnia zappalà danza), a venue specifically designed for dance and the performing arts which gives an enormous creative potential to professionals and students alike. Participants to modem course will have the unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with the functional mechanisms of a performing arts venue and to see performances and take part in seminars and workshops by prestigious guest artists.
The Artistic Director of Modem Training Course is Roberto Zappalà, artistic director and choreographer of compagnia zappalà danza.
Certificate of attendance the certificate will be delivered only to dancers who correctly attend the two-year modem atelier course, and have finished the second year. It has no legal value.
Holidays 20th December 2010 - 7th January 2011, 21st - 26th April 2011 and Italian national holidays.
Accommodation A student accommodation services list will be provided to participants. The cost for a single bedroom varies from 150 to 250 Euros per month. The direction is not responsible for any possible problems relate to accommodation.
